The Mission of Light gift of serving returned to Calcutta, India October, 2006. A two week journey of the heart, the seven of us were embraced and welcomed into the villages of, as Mother Teresa would say, The Poorest of the Poor. The beautiful, loving, compassionate people we met -- people working diligently each and every day to create a peaceful, more sustainable way of be-ing for themselves and their communities -- were living examples of loving possibility.
We were honored to again serve through the grass roots organization, Right Track (righttrack_1@sify.com). This organization, 16 years old now, has been working tirelessly to bring not only education, health & wellness care into the impoverished communities, but also, as we learned this year, setting up clean water systems and solar power to thousands of people forced to live off the grid in the outskirts of Indian society.
One of the greatest blessing for me, personally, was to see a woman that we had served in 2004 when she was a mother of a very young (approximately 4-6 month old) child. I was thrilled to see this once famished shell of a woman, though still thin by most standards, looking lifetimes healthier than last we met. She was happy, vibrant, talkative and, along with her now 3 year old son, was finding her own unique life expression in this blossoming community of people.
The next journey to India is tentatively scheduled for February, 2008. I look forward to sharing photos and more stories of our journey with you soon.
As always, your Kind Thoughts, Prayers and Loving Support is Appreciated and Felt Very Deeply.
Peace,
Michelle & The Mission India 2006 Team
